‘Excited’ MPs provide entertainment but little substance
By ESTHER NG
IT was a week of firsts for Parliament.
It was the first time the Dewan Rakyat convened after the so-called political tsunami, it was the first time proceedings were telecast live over national television, and it was the first time Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia took the Chair facing an enhanced block of Opposition members.
Thanks to the firsts, much attention was focussed on the Dewan Rakyat when it opened for its new session.

Observers were not disappointed – the 12th Parliament was explosive.
The Yang Berhormats were loud, insistent, almost in your face. While it’s true that this was only to be expected after the recent elections, many felt that the MPs went beyond expectation.
